Sobre este artículo

London: Chapman and Hall, 1839. First edition. Leather. Good Only. 8.5" by 5.5". Phiz. The first edition in book form of Charles Dickens' third novel. First edition in book form, very early issue. With first state issue points such as the important 'latter for letter' to page 160, 'Inscribed' to page 238, 'Visiters' rather than 'visitors' to page 272, 'incontestible' for 'incontestable' to page 297, 'flys' for 'flies' to page 245, 'suprise' for 'surprise' to page 586. Also the first four plates have the publisher's imprint. This copy has the correct 'sister' for 'visiter' to page 123, which was said to be corrected alongside the 'latter/letter' issue point whilst the work was still in parts. Therefore some of this text has been formed from the original first state parts as it has latter instead of letter. Issue points called for by Smith 5, Podeschi A41 and Eckel pp 64-5. Illustrated, with a frontispiece and 39 plates. Collated, complete. Nicholas Nickleby we originally published as a serial from 1838 to 1839. This is the first edition of the novel in book form. The novel centres on a young man, Nicholas Nickleby, who must support his mother and sister following his father's untimely death. Needs a new binding. In a half diced calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, rubbed to the extremities and to the joints. completely lacking backstrip. Front joint and hinge has failed and therefore the board is detached but present. Small loss due to chip at the outer margin of frontispiece. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age toned to edges. Heavy spotting to the first few pages and to several of the plates at edges. Scattered spotting throughout. Overall: GOOD ONLY due to binding. Good Only
