Sobre este artículo
London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green & Longman, 1832. Leather. Good. 8" by 5.5". Not Stated. A lovely two volume set concerning the life and death of Lord Edward Fitzgerald, in full calf bindings. The third edition of this work in full calf bindings. Bookplate to the front paste down of Volume I. Illustrated with a frontispiece to Volume I and a folding map to Volume II. A biography in two volumes of Lord Edward FitzGerald (1763-1798), an Irish aristocrat who abandoned his prospects as a veteran of British service in the American War of Independence, and as a Parliamentarian, to embrace the cause of an independent Irish republic. He sought inspiration in revolutionary France where, in 1792, he met Thomas Paine. From 1796 he became a leading proponent in the Society of United Irishmen, but was fatally wounded in the course of arrest during an uprising in 1798. Thomas Moore's (1779-1852) biography depicts FitzGerald as a martyr in the cause of democratic reform. In full calf bindings. Externally with some rubbing to the extremities and the spine. Lacking the spine labels to Volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to the first and last few pages. Offsetting to the page perimeters of the free end papers and to the leaves surrounding the frontispiece. The occasional offsetting to the text. Folding map is a little creased. Good
