Spine sunned, otherwise light rubbing. Inserted plates are evenly toned, but largely a clean copy. Very good. Miles 374. Field and Miles both call for a frontispiece and 12 plates. This copy with frontis and 13 plates. Additionally, a contemporary postal cover with Fremont's portrait is laid in. "To the frequently reprinted details of Fremont's explorations and adventures among the Indians, this volume adds a number of portraits of the [Native Americans] of different tribes, and illustrations of their warfare and councils"-Field 1589.
