From Intro: The Lectures on Goethe here printed are ot the whole of those delivered at the School of Philosophy in July, 1885; for several of the lectures have either published their essays elsewhere, or withhold them for other sues. Much also that was said in the conversations which followed the Lectures, and which threw light on the text as here printed, is necessarily omitted; although the lecturers, in revising their sessions, (as he had not be4en since 1882,) was unable to make his comments in the conversations; and therefore some passages from his Diaries have been inserted in the lecture of Mr. Sanborn. On the other hand, Mr. Snider and other lecturers have omitted, in revision, some of the comments made in the spoken lectures ….
