Two volumes, complete. Frontispiece in each volume. Original green buckram cloth, brown leather spine labels. Bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear. Spines are mildly sunned, the spine labels have some edge chipping; ownership signature on ffep of vol 2; 8vo; 8.25 inches tall; First Edition, First Printing.. Badé was commissioned in 1915 as literary executor of Muir's estate, and he immediately began to collect Muir letters of copies of letters, accumulating nearly two thousand in all. Muir was a prolific letter-writer.

According to his daughter, his first order of business each day was to answer letters and send out his on correspondence. His letters as first-hand reminiscences give and insight and understanding of Muir that can not be found in other sources.
