Sobre este artículo

Reading, Berkshire: The Golden Cockerel Press, 1932. Cloth. Very Good. 9.5" by 6". Denis Tegetmeier. An illustrated edition of Henry Fielding's satirical early novel. This is No. 136 of 350 copies. Illustrated with copper etched plates from illustrator and engraver Denis Tegetmeier.Originally published in 1743, this is an early novel from English novelist, satirist and dramatist Henry Fielding, best known for his comic novel, 'Tom Jones', and seen as one of the founders of the English novel. This work is an ironic treatment of Jonathan Wild, a notorious underworld figure of the time.  A satire of Sir Robert Walpole, Prime Minister of the time, Fielding equates Walpole with the gang leader and highwayman. Fielding was often sharply critical of Walpole's government. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Discolouration to spine and board perimeters. Slight shelf wear to spine head and tail. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Very Good
