First edition. Published the year Blaine was nominated as the Republican candidate for President. Blaine was a founding member of the Republican party in 1856, and served as a Representative and Senator from Maine from 1863 to 1881. He was Speaker of the House from 1869 to 1875. There is also a brief biography of Blaine's running mate, John A. Logan, who is notable for conceiving and inaugurating Memorial Day in 1868. Illustrated. Browning to leaves, name in ink on front flyleaf, with one name marked through, else very good.
