Hardback, 1896, new popular edition with seventeen illustrations, published by Adam & Charles Black, London, 806 pages + xii.
Measures around 9 1/8"/23.2cm x 6" x 15.2cm. Dark red cloth boards and spine with gilt lettering to front board and gilt lettering and patterning to spine. Some scuffing, marking and discolouration with shelf-wear and small tears to upper and lower edges of spine. Rubbing to hinges. Bumped and slightly torn corners. Binding a little slack but reasonably firm for its age. Page edges gilt, still very visible, though with some scuffing and marking. Page surfaces mostly clean, with the odd pencil underline. Some pages contain foxing but this is mainly restricted to those with plates opposite them or towards the endpapers. See pictures for further information.
