Extremities worn, including bumped and worn corners. Protective tissue for frontispiece of William L. Stone intact, carries offset of the portrait, which copied over on to the title page. Owner's names in pencil of front end page and title page; one inked with inscription on end page, too. Pp. 139-142 are cut shorter than the others an a little wider, hanging out at the side, and loosening from the binding at the top, though still attached. Sewn binding is cracked at introductory pages, though otherwise holding. Tall 8vo. By the late William L. Stone, the last historical work he wrote. With a memoir of the author by his son. According to the preface, in writing histories of the Native Americans, Stone's intention was to ultimately convey a complete account of the great Iroquois Confederacy. Red Jacket, a great Seneca orator, was the most distinguished among the Six Nations, and in this memoir, 'the principal figure in illustrating the history of the Six Nations down to the conclusion of the treaty for the sale of the residue of the Seneca lands, in the autumn of 1838,' which extinguised the confederacy of the A-qua-nu-schi-o-ni. With index beginning at pg. 499. Six nations; Seneca; A-qua-nu-schi-o-ni; Iroquois Confederacy
