London: Ward, Lock and Co . Original Cloth. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Large. Type: Z Volume One 440pp + Volume Two 494pp No date, though a preface page is dated 1871. A charming copy with bright blue cloth boards and a gilt and black embossed picture and design to the front board and spine. Illustrated with numerous plates after designs by C. Stanfield, D. Maclise, John Leech, Richard Doyle and Robert James Hamerton. Steel engraving frontispiece plate. Light rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and to the corners of the boards. Little rubbing to the head of the front end paper with slight loss. Slight foxing to the fore edges and end papers. There is a small indentation mark to the reverse of the frontispiece plate. There is a short tear of 3 cm to the top margin of pp 191 of volume one and plate V has been reinserted by pp192 of volume one, using sellotape which has significantly browned in the inner hinge. A very good, heavily illustrated tome.
