Sobre este artículo
London, UK Edward Lloyd, Ltd. , 1908. Hardcover First published in 1903. Good+: Shows moderate use: moderate wear to the outside edges; mild rubbing to the panels; the front hinge is just starting; former owner's small rubber-stamped name at the front pastedown endpaper; faint dampstain to the bottom edge; the text pages are lightly tanned; the binding is square and remains secure; the text is clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing some wear and minor flaws. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 12mo. (7 x 5.25 x 1.15 inches). 726 pages. Language: English. Weight: 16 ounces. Reddish-Brown cloth over boards with embossed name at the front panel and gilt titles at the backstrip. "Lloyd's Popular Edition" Hardback: No DJ 'as issued'. After the death of Gladstone, Morley was principally engaged upon his biography, until it was published in 1903. Representing as it does so competent a writer's sifting of a mass of material, the Life of Gladstone was a masterly account of the career of the great Liberal statesman; traces of Liberal bias were inevitable but are rarely manifest; and in spite of the a priori unlikelihood of a full appreciation of Gladstone's powerful religious interests from such a quarter (Morley was an agnostic), the whole treatment is characterized by sympathy and judgement. The work was very successful, selling more than 25,000 copies in its first year.
