The author was the third wife of John Wilson Townsend, (1885-1968), Kentucky historian and book dealer, who wrote widely on Kentucky history and literature, and whose major work was KENTUCKY IN AMERICAN LETTERS, (1913). In 1930, Eastern Kentucky University bought his Kentucky collection of some fifteen hundred items, and in 1966, he donated some six thousand items to Transylvania University..
