In the late 1820s SArah and Angelina Grimke traded their elite positions as daughters of a prominent Charleston, SC white slaveholding family for a life dedicated to abolitionism and advocacy of women's rights in the North. After the Civil War they discovered their late brother had children with one of his slaves, and helped educated theor nephews and gave them the means to start a new life. The nephews became activists and were involved in the cicil rights movement and the founding of the NAACP. Spanning 150 eventful years.. First Paperback. Trade Paperback. Fine. 8vo.
