Attractively bound in French 3/4 crimson morocco over marbled boards, spine with raised bands and gilt titling, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers (slight rubbing, two spots to front cover; some age-toning to text margins). Stamped 'Expressly bound for Raphael Weill & Co San Fransisco'. [4], xv, [1], 419 pages. Text in French. Probable later issue of the famed satire concerning an arctic colony of penguins transmogrified into human beings (with mordant commentary on both Christian missionary endeavors and the Dreyfus case). Date is conjectural; with original copyright date of 1908 on title page verso and numerical code '18554-9-09' at foot of page 419.
