Highly polished full-leather calf binding in which the leather has been stained to produce a dark tree-like pattern along the front and rear boards (Tree Calf). Spine decorated with two red, brown rectangular leather title labels and elaborate gold decorations. Shell pattern endpapers, muted pink and brown, with white background. 2 neoclassical frontispiece engravings by Myris Moreau. Silk reading ribbon. Each volume has errata page. Nice Firm Clean copy ! Light general wear, worn through at board tips. Hinges undamaged. Text block firm and even. Pages are easily readable large text, minor foxing. Size: 8vo 7.75 - 9.75'' tall. Jacques Delille (1738-1813), translator, poet and classicist who enjoyed an impressive reputation in his day as the 'French Virgil.' His own poetry is dedicated to nature.
