One of 100 copies, numbered and signed by Michael Foreman on the title page and with a numbered and signed original etching loosely inserted. This copy number 1 of the book and etching. Illustrated in full colour throughout with the text confined to the margins. Hemingway's children's short story, a loose parody of Ferdinand the Bull, was originally published in Holiday magazine in 1951. This is the first printing with these illustrations. A fine copy in publishers laminated boards with full colour illustration to the front board. Colour illustrated endpapers. Etching image measures 3.9 x 3 inches on a sheet of untrimmed hand made paper measuring 9.5 x 7.5 inches, and has a loose tissue guard to protect it. The book is housed in a plain brown paper covered slip case.

Not unlike fairies and goblins, Brownies are imaginary little sprites, who are supposed to delight in harmless pranks and helpful deeds. Writing in pencil inside front cover explaining the edition and rarity. 160 p. Includes: illustrations, index. Extremely rare Initial Teaching Alphabet experimental edition of the New Basic Readers of Fun with our Friends. This was piloted in a few select schools but was abandoned 1-2 years after it began. The I.T.A. was developed by Sir James Pitman and was intended for use with children with extreme reading disabilities. This is a first and ONLY edition printed in 1965. A beautiful and very scarce allegorical book by Bernard Sleigh, one of the leading artists of the Birmingham School of Arts and Crafts, and student of Arthur Gaskin. #30 of 475 numbered copies. Twelve illustrations drawn by Sleigh on separate pages and engraved on wood by Ivy A Ellis and the author, and bound by Frank Garrett (interestingly the publisher's cover label has the title: "A Faery Pageant)."
