New York: Owl Club of the New York Herald, 1912. First Edition. Softcover. Very Good. 8pp, large folio; illustrated from photogaphs and cartoons. The front page mentions a "Martinique Disaster," alluding to an inside story on the Herald Owls 11th Annual Dinner at the Hotel Martinique in New York. Humorous comments and short articles are found throughout the issue, including: History of Club Started by 'Nick' Biddle; Charles Yulerick in "Four Aces" Scores in His Great Card Biting Scene; No Gaming of Any Kind on the Premises of the Herald Building; Have You A Little Leary in Your Home?; American Taken to Paris Pound after Crash; Street Alarmed by Rumors of Trouble in Petry Bank; Real Big Bugs Crawl under Cover on Their Return from Paris; &c. 16.25" x 11". One horizontal fold, reinforced with archival tissue on the verso. This obscure periodical, published by the Owl Club of the New York Herald, an association of editors and journalists, is mentioned in the February 15, 1908 edition of "The Fourth Estate." In that paper's February 7, 1920 issue it is reported that: "The twenty-first and final dinner of the Owl Club composed of members of the staff of the New York Herald was held at the Hotel Vanderbilt, early Sunday morning after the last Herald had been put to bed...." The New York Herald ceased publication in 1924.
