Sobre este artículo

London: H. Hurst, 1848. Cloth. Very Good. 7" by 5". Not Stated. A very scarce first edition two volume set of Captain Marryat's posthumously published work for children. This work follows a cast-away boy living on an island. It was later turned into a 1959 film. Captain Frederick Marryat (1792-1848) was a Royal Navy officer, writer and children's novelist, known for being an early author of nautical fiction. His works were admired by the likes of Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway, the most famous being his semi-autobiographical 'Mr. Midshipman Easy' and the children's novel 'The Children of the New Forest'. With four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of each volume.Volume I is illustrated with four plates including a frontispiece; Volume II is illustrated with four plates including a frontispiece. In a full cloth binding with gilt stamped to the front cover with blind stamped decor. Externally a trifle worn, with bumping to the head and tails of the spine and the extremities resulting in chipping and loss to the cloth. Ownership inscription to the front endpaper; a bookplate has been removed from the front pastedown. Internally generally firmly bound, hinges are starting but remain generally firm. Pages are bright and clean bar the occasional spot. Very Good
