George Lillo's most famous work, a tragic play following the downfall of a young apprentice due to his association with a prostitute. The play was first performed at the Drury Lane Theatre in 1731, and was one of the most popular plays of the century.Illustrated with a frontispiece.Lillo was a popular eighteenth century playwright. His other works include 'The Christian Hero', 'Fatal Curiosity', and 'Marina'.One page of publisher's adverts to the rear. Rebound in a half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, with a little rubbing to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots. Small closed tear to the last couple of pages to the gutter. Very Good

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
