Tissue-guarded color frontispiece, 3 full-page called-for color plates, map endpapers. Very good. Quite mild binding edgewear only, else quite tight and internally fine. Handsome first edition of this popular Civil War fiction that apparently got the bestselling novelist in hot water with "Stonewall" Jackson's widow. Superb, pristine Wyeth color plates. Johnston (1870-1936) was not only a prolific writer but also a noted Virginia women's rights activist. A wonderful copy.
