Unclipped ($16.95) jacket now protected in removable mylar cover, shows shelf wear, minor chipping to edges and small 1 in. crease on lower jacket back. "In June 1963 President John Kennedy asked the U.S. Congress to outlaw racial discrimination from American life and law. The Longest Debate is the story of how Congress responded by doing what had to be done-and what could be done only by Congress." (ref. jacket back). Charles Whalen was a U.S. Congressman representing Ohio's third district from 1967-1979. Barbara Whalen was a columnist for the Dayton (Ohio) Journal-Herald. Together, the Whalen's interviewed political and civil rights leaders as well as reviewed released tapes from the White House to write the book. 9.25x6.25 in. 289pg.
