Generously illustrated with 21 full-page B&W photographs of Taft and his work. Lorado Zadok Taft (1860 – 1936) was an American sculptor, writer and educator. His 1903 book, The History of American Sculpture, was the first survey of the subject and stood for decades as the standard reference. He has been credited with helping to advance the status of women as sculptors. This book was written by his wife after his death, and published by his daughter. The gift inscription on the ffep is signed by Mary H. Webster, to whom the author refers in her Foreword as a member of Taft's "studio family." Webster was also an American sculptor, and her bust of Taft is on display at the art museum at the University of Illinois at Champaign. . Gift inscription on ffep (Christmas 1946), else as new; otherwise unmarked, seemingly unread, tight, square, and clean. VERY GOOD. . Photographs. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. vii, 88 pp. Signed by Associated .
