Sobre este artículo
Paris: Gabon, 1828., 1828. Two Volumes + folio atlas. 8vos. ix, 382 pp.; 402 pp.; 114 pp. The two text volumes are sumptuously bound in contemporary russia, richly gilt, blind tooled and stamped, with raised spinal labels, gilt gauffered edges, inner gilt denetelles, and silk doublures. The atlas is bound in contemporary green cloth covered boards with a modern calf spine and tips, gilt in matching style; marbled edges and modern white moire silk endpapers. Illustrated with 77 plates, some fold-out. The atlas is INSCRIBED by Delpech on the top of the half-title page: "A Monsieur le Docteur Fouget [slightly cropped] a Bordeaux/de la part de l auteur." Delpech (1772-1832) did more than any other man towards the development of orthopaedics in France. Professor of Surgery in Montpelier. He is known for many major achievements including: first to establish the tuberculous nature of Pott's disease; anticipated Stromeyer in subcutaneous tenotomy for club foot; established an institute for treatment of spinal deformities based on exercises and gymnastics in Montpelier in 1825; he was one of the first surgeons to point out the danger of spreading infection as a result of direct contact with pus, dirty dressings, and unclean hands; he was the real founder of the theory that deformities are due to lack of balance in the action of muscle groups. (GM 4315; ORR 150). Although the plates are numbered through Roman numeral LXXVIII, the atlas is missing, as is common, XLVI, thus having 77 plates. The bindings are truly magnificent with only very light wear at the extremities of the two text volumes. Internally the pages of the text volumes as well as the atlas are very bright and almost completely devoid of any foxing. A spectacular, rare set especially when the author's inscription is taken into account.. Inscribed by Author(s). 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine.
