Short stories: Title plus 9 others originally published by Harper & Brothers in 1941, Maxwell Perkins as Executor for Thomas Wolfe's estate. The author died at age 37 in 1938. He left with his publisher an unsorted stack of manuscripts standing chest high. Editor Edward C Aswell then extracted Wolfe's "The Web and the Rock", "You Can't Go Home Again", and "The Hills Beyond". The Asheville NC native's reputation was already well-established with his earlier, "Look Homeward, Angel". Wolfe was considered one of the most important writers of his pre-World War II generation.
