New York:: Harper & Brothers, 1951. A tight copy with sharp corners. The background color on the Dust Jacket spine has mellowed (sun faded?) from orange to a shade of golden yellow. The spine lettering is still clear and distinct. NOT price clipped (2.50). No owner's name or bookplate. No remainder mark. Some minor browning along the endpaper hinges (from binder's glue that is starting to show through). All other pages are bright white, crisp and clean. Each chapter heading is illustrated with a small line drawing on a maritime theme. Bound in the original blue-green boards, with a blue cloth spine lettered in off white. The front board is illustrated with a mermaid and fish motif. From the Dust Jacket: "THE LOST SEA tells what happened when a young [Dutch] orphan boy was carried off by the Black Skipper, of the strange places he saw, a fierce battle at sea, the epic carousing of his mates and the wonderful tales he heard from them.". Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines.
