Sobre este artículo

London Published only by R. Cocks & Co....Music Sellers in Ordinary to her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria 1. [no date] [1843]. Folio, 355 x 245 mms., pp. [iv], v [vi blank], 235 [236 blank], engraved throughout, including three full-age engraved plates illustrating violin posture and hand position, original embossed cloth, rebacked with old spine laid down, corners restored; childish scrawl of hands on verso of title-page, fore-edges a bit rough , but a very good copy. Spohr (1784 – 1859) published his Violinschule in 1832, and an English translation by C. Rudolphus appeared almost immediately. It codified many of the new conventions and practices of violin playing, and Spohr introduced his chin rest, which he had invented in about 1820. His pupil, U. C. Hill, produced a revised edition of the English translation in 1839. This new translation by John Bishop, who asserts in the preface (dated January 1843) that "numerous accidentals which, through oversight, were omitted in the German copy have, in this edition, been carefully inserted during the revision of the plates; so that, in this respect, I think I may lay claim to greater accuracy than even the original itself."
