"The art of pottery in China doubless dates back to the remotest times; but its most ancient periods are only known through legends. Several specimens dating back to the Chou dynasty (1122-255 B.C.) have been found in ancient tombs : they are hieratic shaped domestic utensils with symbolical ornaments. The real history of Chinese Ceramics begins only with the Han dynasty, which brings us down to the beginning of the Christian era." (Vasselot).

Volume one with twenty hand colored, and twenty in b/w, volume two with twenty-seven hand-colored, seventeen in b/w. Both volumes contain images of marks on the porcelains reproduced in these volumes, and descriptive lists of illustrations with measurements. Text parts in both volumes enclosed by illustrated advertisements on glossy paper.
