London: Hogarth Press, 1956. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. LIMITED EDITION OF JUST 20 COPIES. Publisher's tan cloth stamped in gilt on red panels at spine, in dust wrapper [design by Charles Mozley], top edge stained maroon. A near fine copy in like D/W with the VERY SCARCE WHITE WRAP-AROUND BAND announcing: "By courtesy of The Hogarth Press we are sending you a specially produced copy of Mr William Sansom's latest novel, which has been highly praised in many authoritative reviews. The printing and binding were carried out at Longbank Works, Alva; the offset jacket is by Swift Publicity Services". This white wrap-around band was unique to this limited edition of 20 copies and should not be mistaken for the red wrap-around Book Society Band occasionally seen on the trade edition (which was also bound differently in french blue cloth). A real Hogarth Press rarity and exceedingly uncommon in this, the Limited Edition of just 20 copies. One of this author's most important works. Photographs/scans available upon request.
