The First UK printing published by Jonathan Cape in 1930. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition with light pushing to the spine ends. The gilt titling remains bright. A light water stain to the lower front cover edge which has just slightly seeped through to the lower front pastedown. Some toning and spotting to the text-block with some offsetting to the blank end-papers. Some light spotting to the prelims. Free from inscriptions. The extremely scarce WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good+ condition. Minimal edge-wear with just very little loss at the spine ends and the corners. A light water stain to the lower front cover. The paper labels to the spine and front cover are complete. The wrapper remains very bright in the removable Brodart archival cover. Marjorie Olive Whitaker, better known under her pseudonym Malachi Whitaker, was noted for her short stories and an autobiography. She wrote nearly 100 stories published in four collections by Jonathan Cape in the 1920s and 1930s. Her talent was recognised by contemporaries such as Vita Sackville-West compared her to Katherine Mansfield, and she was known as the 'Bradford Chekhov'. This, her second published collection of short stories, is a very scarce title with its wrapper. The first copy that we have handled to date. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
