A sweeping, dramatic account of America's increasing involvement in the Far East from 1941. Part One tells the story of Baatan and MacArthur's triumphant return to the Philippines; Pat Two describes the surrender of Japan and the great accomplishments of the occupation; Part Three gives an account of the Korean War, including the baffling and often contradictory policy directives under which MacArthur operated; Part Four deals with his recall, his political activities during 1952 and his subsequent position as an industrial leader. Gen. Whitney was requested by MacArthur for his staff in 1943 after serving as an intelligence officer. He directed the activities of MacArthur's guerrila army in the Philippines and served as his chief deputy in Japan.
