First Edition, First Issue: with the dedication to 'senart' and not 'senard' as in printings thereafter. 8vo. 490pp. Bound in quarter calf over marbled boards of the period. Gilt titling and decoration of the spine. VERY GOOD. Shows a hint of shelf rubbing at the corners, spines lightly tanned, otherwise the bindings are strong, the textblock is unmarked having been exceptionally well maintained, and the boards remain distinct. As pictured.
Sinopsis
Madame Bovary is Gustave Flaubert's first novel and considered his masterpiece. The story focuses on a doctor's wife, Emma Bovary, who has adulterous affairs and lives beyond her means in order to escape the banalities and emptiness of provincial life. Though the basic plot is rather simple, even archetypal, the novel's true art lies in its details and hidden patterns.
