Title pages, 1388 pp. [viii, 602; viii, 570]; 34 [20; 14] engraved or lithographed plates [I: numbered 1-18, 1a, 16.2; II: 1-14], of which several coloured by hand. Uniform pebbled half morocco over marbled boards. Spines with five raised band, and gilt title. Marbled endpapers. Top edges gilt. The complete Magazine of Zoology and Botany edited by William Jardine, P. J. Selby and Dr. Johnston. It forms the rare start of a magazine that went through several mergers and name changes. Well-illustrated and containing many new species. Boards worn, with the front board of the second volume detached; the large, double folded full colour plate 13 in the second volume split at folds. Bookplate of the John Crerar Library on both front pastedowns; their perforated stamp on title leaves, and small, weak stamp on plate versos (not shining through). In all a reasonably good set.
