Americana 88c Crane, Stephen, 1871-1900. Maggie, a girl of the streets: a story of New York. With an introduction by Shirley Ann Grau and gravures from etchings by Sigmund Abeles. (Avon, Connecticut): Limited Editions Club, 1974, 105 p., [6] leaves of plates: illus. The seven full-page illustrations were etched in copper by Sigmund Abeles. This is #1189 of the limited edition of 2000 copies. Signed on the colophon page by Abeles. Abeles was born in New York City in 1934, and was raised in and around Myrtle Beach, SC. His work spans many media, including pastels, oils, sculpture and the graphic media. He is professor emeritus of the University of New Hampshire and has studios in upstate New York and New York City. The book is bound in half glazed black goatskin, embellished and lettered in gilt, over a handsome patterned buckram "reminiscent of pillow covers and unmade beds". The book is in fine condition. Slipcase has some wear to head and heel where the black tape has worn off. The tape on the bottom back corner also has minor loss of tape, otherwise fine. $25.00 Box 70 II, 1
