Sobre este artículo

London: Jonathan Cape, 1966. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 8" by 5.5". Not Stated. The first edition of John Fowles's celebrated postmodern novel, in the bright unclipped dust wrapper. The first edition, first impression of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper, illustrated by Tom Adams.'The Magus' is John Fowles's postmodern novel about Nicholas Urfe, a young man who is teaching English on a small Greek island and becomes embroiled in the psychological illusions of a master trickster. Considered an example of metafiction, this was Fowles first written novel, but his third to be published. In 1977 he published a revised edition. A wonderful first edition from Fowles, the renowned British novelist of works positioned between modernism and postmodernism, best known for 'A Maggot', 'The French Lieutenant's Woman', and 'The Collector'. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally very smart, with just a touch of fading to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Dust wrapper is bright and generally smart, with a little chipping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the folds of the flaps. One very small tear to the front of the wrap. Fine

Sinopsis

This daring literary thriller, rich with eroticism and suspense, is one of John Fowles's best-loved and bestselling novels and has contributed significantly to his international reputation as a writer of the first degree. At the center of The Magus is Nicholas Urfe, a young Englishman who accepts a teaching position on a remote Greek island, where he befriends a local millionaire. The friendship soon evolves into a deadly game, in which reality and fantasy are deliberately manipulated, and Nicholas finds that he must fight not only for his sanity but for his very survival.
