Sobre este artículo

New York: Macmillan and Co, 1895. Hardcover. Illustrations by Henry P. Riviere and Joseph Pennell. 12mo. Green cloth with black spine lettering and decoration. xvii, 618pp. Tissue-guarded frontispiece, numerous full-page plates and small text illustrations. Very good. Tight and clean, with text block near fine. First American edition of this thick study and one of the last books by the prolific Scottish novelist and historical writer (1828-97). Interestingly, tipped to front flyleaf is an unidentified ca. 1900 book illustration featuring oval images of eight popular female turn-of-the-century authors, among them Oliphant. Discreet ex-library, the sole marking being call number at foot of spine.
