His first novel, Mamur Zapt and the Return of the Carpet (1988) began the remarkable "Mamur Zapt" series of mysteries. He has also published "A Dead Man in..." mysteries, set in before the First World War which feature Sandor Seymour, an officer of Scotland Yard's Special Branch who ideals with crimes affecting the British diplomatic service.
