Sobre este artículo

Syracuse, NY: C.W. Bardeen, Publisher, 1893. Hardcover. Good Plus/Issued Without Jacket. A manual containing a multitude of facts about 1890s government at all levels in New York State. Its purpose was to provide a basic reference for each classroom on questions such as: What is a city? What officers does a city have, and how much are they paid? What are the duties of a town clerk? A game officer? A coroner? Keeping in mind these are questions asked and answered for New York State in 1893, and that population sizes, legislative districts, officials' names have changed, this remains a fascinating little volume. Much of the information here would change with each election so the number of editions has less meaning than the year of publication. This copy is about 120 years old. About 5 x 7 inches, 214 pages plus 14 pages of publisher's ads. Black cloth-covered boards with beveled edges and gold lettering on spine. Includes an index. This copy also has a brief newspaper article listing President Coolidge's Cabinet paperclipped to early pages titled "Preface to the Forty-First Edition." The paperclip has rusted over the years and has lightly stained several pages though all remain legible. The front interior hinge has cracked less than an inch at either end, o/w there has been only some minor wear and chipping to the spine ends and light bumping to the corners. Text edges are slightly soiled but text as a whole is clean, complete and unmarked. Binding remains tight and square. The book remains an historical resource and one wonders whether this kind of information is easily available in today's schools.
