He also illustrated the 'Boy Scout Handbook', posters and broadsides to be used by the Boy Scouts. He volunteered his services to the Boy Scouts for 30 years.

This is one of the earliest maps of Philmont Scout Ranch that is part of a series to show the facility over the years. The maps were designed to be posted in local scout meeting centers to show the various actives and adventure of going to the ranch.

The land for the Philmont Scout Ranch was donated by Waite Philips, a wealthy oil businessman and wilderness advocate, starting in 1938. Including other donations and use of National Park land Philmont is now a 140,000 acre ranch, in Northern New Mexico, with a wide range of topography of the Southwest high desert. It was developed by the Boy Scouts of America to for recreational and training use. There are 3 main camps and several trail camps. Thousands of Boy Scouts are able to attend the ranch annually.

This map was from the library of the late Dr. G. Warren Smith (1941-2021) of Pennsylvania. He had a long career as university professor and administrator, and was a collector of over 6,000 books, maps, illustrations, and artifacts relating to the Arctic, Alaska, and Pacific Northwest. He was also a Boy Scout and long time Scout leader and supporter.
