Binding: Folded and housed in the publisher's original cloth case 4-5/8 x 8-1/4 inches with paper labels. Folded linen-backed map: Flat; 36 x 23-1/4 x 23-1/2 inches. Folded; 5-1/8 x 8 inches. Very good condition

First issued in 1800 by Smyth and subsequently revised by Wyld, this map of Upper Canada contains detailed information on the counties, districts, townships, transportation systems, place-names and northern Ontario ('Great Tract of Wilderness') &c. It also includes portions of Quebec, Michigan Territory, New York, Pennsylvania. Much of the regions depicted were still unexplored, with various text notes added, such as "Black River flows a great way into the country." Map with hand-coloured borders and to some areas on map. Relief shown by hachures as issued and folded into 24 panels, 5-1/8 x 8 inches.
