Sobre este artículo

The North American Review. Volume 178, No. 3, New York, 1904. Woman Suffrage: Its Advantage to the State by Ida Husted Harper. 12 page article by Harper in the 480 deckled pages + 18 page advertising booklet. 9.5" x 7" inches. Harper asks "Would Woman Suffrage Benefit the State, And Woman Herself?" This article begins as a response to a piece written by Annie Nathan Meyer, an anti-suffrage journalist. Harper surgically goes through the points laid out by Meyer which generally center on the the claim that suffrage will extinguish traditional femininity, and rebukes them. She is conscious of the transitional era that she exists in, and considers suffrage to be an essential issue at heart of the the social and technological transformations taking place at the turn of the century: "Whether the suffrage would be a benefit to woman must be considered, not with reference to the women of the past, but with reference to those of the present and the future - women who are rapidly becoming equal factors with men in education, the industries and civic work of every nature." Other articles within this edition of the North American Review cover the Russo-Japanese War, a German expedition to Antarctica, and more. This piece is overall in very good condition.
