Sobre este artículo

Atwood, Margaret. Alias Grace. New York: Nan A. Talese, Doubleday, 1996. Octavo, 6.25" x 9.25" inches. 442 pages. Uncorrected Advance Reading Copy (ARC) marked "Not For Sale" in original illustrated wrappers. Uncorrected ARCs are very few in number; printed before even the first edition. Alias Grace is an adaptation of the story of Grace Marks, an Irish-Canadian maid who became infamous at fifteen for her involvement in the murder of her employer, Thomas Kinnear, and his housekeeper, Nancy Montgomery. While the real Marks disappeared after her pardoning from the Kingston Penitentiary, Atwood invents a scenario in which Marks is hired as domestic servant in the home of the Governor of the penitentiary. The book takes shape around the dialog between Marks and the psychiatrist tasked with analyzing her, Simon D. Jordan, and what is revealed through the lifting of repression. This work is a pillar of the Southern Ontario Gothic genre, focusing on the stiff moralism of the Victorian upper class, moral hypocrisy, psychoanalysis and the medicalization of female trauma. Winner of the Giller Prize and shortlisted for the Booker Prize. This copy is in very good condition with minor bumping at the top and bottom edges.
