This is the original first edition of the French-Canadian classic. The original covers, Suzor-Cote illustrations, and text block have been bound into boards with an authentic wood veneer (appears to be birch) with suede-leather spine and corners. Beaver and maple-leaf gilt motif to spine. Original book in very good condition, with loss to the bottom-front-corner of the title-page. The contemporary binding is in very good condition with loss to spine-label, and two 1/4" chips to wood veneer. Some rubbing and shelfwear to edges. Rare. / Edition originale. Reliure récente: plat de bois, dos et coins en suède-cuir. Motifs de castor and feuilles d'érable dorés au dos. Livre original en bonne condition. Perte à un coin de la page titre.
