Very Good. octavo. orig. cloth viii + 308pp., frontis., b/w pls., appendix, index, Colonel Sir Mark Sykes, was an English traveller, politician & diplomatic advisor, particularly about the Middle East at the time of World War I. A protege of Lord Kitchener & contemporary of Lawrence of Arabia, he advised the Cabinet on Middle Eastern affairs; at his instigation the Arab Bureau was created, and he revived ancient Greek and Roman names for Middle Eastern regions, such as 'Syria', 'Palestine' 'Iraq' & 'Mesopotamia'. Some use & lacks free front end paper o/w nice tight copy. Uncommon
