Second Edition; Cr. 8vo; pp. [viii], 324; illustrated frontispiece, text with numerous other b/w. illustrations by Sidney Paget, bound in half red calf with red cloth boards, raised bands, title lettered in gilt on spine, top edge gilt, spine a little worn, bookplates on front endpaper of John Wynford Philipps, 1st Viscount St Davids and of John M. Chapman, a good copy. Arthur George Morrison (1863-1945) English author noted for his novels about London's East End and his detective stories featuring the detective Martin Hewitt. This book is a collection of 7 detective stories featuring martin Hewitt and his assistant Brett. Very much in the style of Sherlock Holmes.
