Sobre este artículo
London : Ward & Downey, 1890. [Second edition]. "Most modern novels are more remarkable for their crime than for their culture, and Mr. G. Manville Fenn's last venture is no exception to the general rule ... turbid, terrifying, and thrilling. It contains, besides many 'moving accidents by flood and field', an elopement, an abduction, a bigamous marriage, an attempted assasination, a duel, a suicide, and a murder. The murder, we must acknowledge, is a masterpiece ... he posesses a rare art - the art of telling a story well" (from Oscar Wilde's anonymous review in the Pall Mall Gazette, 16th September 1896). First published in three volumes in 1886, the original edition is a notorious rarity. Foolscap 8vo (171 x 108mm). iv,418pp. Rebound in a later French quarter morocco, marbled sides and endpapers, sprinkled edges, with the label of the Papeterie Laugt of Pau; some rubbing and wear; mild spotting, mainly of edges, but a good copy of a difficult title.
