Green cloth-covered boards with red title lettering, line border, image of Sphinx with silver rays coming down from sky, silver author name on cover. Red lettering on spine. Slightest hint of dust soiling. No bumped corners, no fraying, no rubbing. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound - no cracking. Pages are clean, with gilt top age edges; small previous owner inscription near top of front free endpaper in tiny neat penmanship, dated 1909. Copyright date and title page date are 1900. Frontispiece illustration with tissue guard, plus three additional illustrations - all by Elva H. Boyle. With an Introduction by Prof. John D. Quackenbos (Author of "Hypnotism in Mental and Moral Culture."). 219 pages. A novel in which the author brings to light some of the most interesting facts connected with hypnotism as she understood them from her own study of hypno-science, and that of her father, Charles B. Boyle, then a well-known scientist. The novel touches on the use of hypnosis in the theatre, and in physical function and cure of disease, as well as romantic infatuation..
