Köln: Verlagsanstalt Benziger & Co, 1944. Hardcover. Small 4to. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. 149pp. Color frontispiece, illustrations. Very good. Spine and extremities a bit sunned; ownership signature on title page and 1949 gift inscription (in Latin, untranslated) from unknown on front flyleaf. Tight and nice first edition, entirely in German, of a selection chosen and translated by the noted German theologian and historian (1900-68), whose title translates "Mother Church: Praise of the Church from the First Thousand Years of Christian Literature.
