Sobre este artículo

New York: Ten Speed Press. Near Fine in Very Good+ dust jacket. 1992. First Edition. Hardcover. Maxfield Parrish was one of the most important illustrators and artists of the early 20th century. Alma Gilbert was uniquely qualified to write this book since she was a curator at the Maxfield Parrish museum. She covers the various periods of his life and delves into the family relationships that were scandalous during his lifetime. This is a beautifully illustrated with many color illustrations of his illustrations, calendars, paintings, murals, landscapes, etc. as well as b&w photographs taken by Parrish himself, including many of his models that depict the artists creative process. This is a large-format book that will appeal to anyone interested in this man's life and work. There are 145 color plates including two folding pages in the center that create a large 4 page color spread. With the exception of a small dent to the lower edge of the front cover (which is not particularly noticeable), this is a very nice copy with no owner names or other markings to the interior or the exterior. The book is bound in red quarter cloth covers. The dust jacket in similarly nice condition with no chips, tears, markings or price-clipping. Size: 11" x13"; Color & B&W Illustrations; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 224 pages .

Sinopsis

Alma Gilbert has dedicated the past twenty-five years to the collection, preservation, and admiration of the works of Maxfield Parrish. From the early 1970s to the present, she has bought, owned, and sold over one hundred originals. She estimates that she has exhibited over three hundred works at her California galleries: La Galeria (1972–1985) and the Alma Gilbert Galleries (1987–1996).   In 1993, she purchased a portion of Parrish’s New Hampshire estate, The Oaks, where the above photograph was taken. She has written several books on her favorite artist: The Make Believe World of Maxfield Parrish , two Parrish Poster Books, A Treasury of Parrish in Children’s Literature, The Mechanic Who Loved to Paint , and two editions of Maxfield Parrish: The Masterworks . In the summer of 1998 she opened a museum in Cornish, New Hampshire, dedicated to the works of the artists of the Cornish Colony. The opening exhibit was, of course, A Celebration: The Hundredth Anniversary of Parrish’s Arrival in Cornish .
