E arl Dumarest still seeks the mythical planet Earth. He still roams alien and violent worlds.Travelling with him goes Mayenne, whose songs create joy and passion - or forgetfulness. Together they are cast up on Tormyle,a planet from another galaxy; a planet unique throughout the Universe. For Tormyle is sentient - the most powerful intelligence in the Cosmos, constantly recreating itself. Tormyle can be Paradise or Hell. Tormyle can manifest as a dragon or a knight on horseback, faceless behind the helmet.Tormyle understands nothing of humanity: of men and women,of emotion. And Tormyle will let no-one escape who cannot answer the unanswerable.
Edwin Charles TUBB (b. 1919 - d. 2010.) English writer and editor who began publishing SF with 'No Short Cuts' for New Worlds,in 1951,and for the next half decade produced a prodigious amount of fiction,in British magazines and in book form, under his own name and many other pseudonyms, some still undisclosed. The next decade ('60s) saw few ECT titles, until the introduction in 'The Winds of Gath'(1967); revised, variant title 'Gath' 1968 (UK) of his most popular character,Earl Dumarest, whose search for Earth - the planet on which he was born, and which no-one seems to believe exists - extends from planet to planet in a post-Galactic-Empire period. As Dumarest moves gradually outwards Galactic Centre along a spiral arm of stars,he gathers clues about the location of Earth and is increasingly opposed by the Cyclan,a vast organization of passionless humans linked cybernetically to a central organic computer. To 1977 the 'Dumarest' series contained 17 novels, this title being the 9th and 'TECHNOS' the 7th - see my book ID rja927321 for a similar Near MINT but,US, ACE DOUBLE,1972 p/b 1st edn.
