Pages clean except for some foxing at preliminaries and edges, with some toning at the front endpapers of each volume and a prior owner's name penciled on the front fixed endpapers; the bindings are gently relaxed, but secure; the full green cloth covers bear pale dust spots, two small, closed surface tears at the spine of volume 1, bumps with surface wrinkling at the top free corners of volume 1 and small inward turns at the free corners of volume 2, and some edgewear, with a few loose threads at spine ends; otherwise sound and attractive, with gilt titles at spine and somewhat worn decorations on the front boards of each. xxxi, 538pp.; xii, 576pp., indexed in volume 2; copiously illustrated, with crisp fold-out plans and charts.
